People with severe paralysis, such as ALS patients, are in need for efficient interfaces enabling communication and mobility. INDIE-WORD enables ALS patients to communicate their needs while not in front of their computer. The device presents an auditory menu of phrases and allows users to effectively select a spoken phrase. INDIE-WORD is entirely open-ended - it can be extended to operate with any input gesture available to the patient (tongue pressure, cheek or eyebrow movement etc.). With INDIE-WORD we provide ALS patients with the indispensable ability to communicate on the go.
