CUBEAT is tangible interactive DJ station designed to encourage playful music creation for children with ASD. The station features 2 cubes, which can be placed in all possible orientations. One cube controls the rhythm while the other determines the melody. Flipping the cubes produces a large variety of rhythmic and melodic combinations. A set of 3 rotating balls allows for an ongoing manipulation of the produced sound with real-time effects. CUBEAT can be played alone, or together with other children, dividing roles for controlling the rhythm, the melody and tweaking the sound effects. The project was developed during “Enabling Music” - our first International Workshop on Assistive Design with the University of Innsbruck, Austria.
